Here are my first trial of photos with my new D800E that I picked up today. All I can say is that it's awesome! I am super impressed with its dynamic range. Wow. You can see how much detail there is in the shadows, especially the ones taken looking into the sun. I'm amazed. These are all without any processing too, so they can be easily improved even more.
The view screen is great too - nice and large and bright and sharp. Another new feature I like is the two axis virtual horizon, and that you can set the Fn button to use it and little indicators in the view finder on the edges appear which instantly tell you if there is any tilt. No more crooked horizons!
Here's some examples, all taken with 14-24mm unless otherwise stated.

Good detail

Best example of dynamic range. Image looking directly into sun! My D7000 would struggle with this scene and have dark shadow areas.

Great shadow detail. Can even see the boat operator sleeping on the boat in the shade!

A quick shot of the moon with my 500mm f4 and TC301 (=1000mm), ISO 1600, 1/200sec.

Great shadow detail.
This is currently what Adelaide Oval looks like! Only the new western stand and the old scoreboard remain. Apparently will be used for the Ashes at the end of 2013 at reduced capacity with the 2014 footy season seeing all stands open.
More to come after my trip to the country this weekend.
