Has anyone modified a Toucam yet?

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has changed the firmware of the Toucam 840k to a 900NC yet? What benifits does this have and is it better to do this than buying the 900NC straight out?

This is the firmware mod not the long exposure mod.

Yep, I've modified my 840k with the 900nc firmware.

The only benefit is that you can use the YUY800 (I think it is) codec, which is supposedly less compression than the old IYUV or something.

It's easy to do and can be backed out. The only disadvantage is, that the camera controls don't have values next to the sliders - you just judge it by eye.

I've had it on (with optimised colour) for several months (since Jan/Feb I think), so all my recent shots have had it. I don't know whether it's better or not, but it's not worse so I've left it on.
