That is the original PST with 1.0 Angstrom bandwidth.. there is a newer version with double stack 0.5A bandwidth that's been recently released going for $1299.

At that price for the base unit you could pay for an additional SM40 filter and do the double stack configuration to get 0.5A for less (??) than the cost of a "0.5A PST" Kit.

We have a PST and it's by far and away the most accessible way to get into solar observing... It's not the last word of course, but for most of us with an existing EQ mount it's a great way to go.

Well, on viewing this post, I got one from Bintel. I can actually see prominences with it, Im chuffed. Now, how the hell to image with it................................t hinking DMK31mono?, I want results like this ,mmm.

Mmm, tempted - but it is a pretty small little scope. How much image scale can you actually get?

The PST 400mm focal length gives a whole disk image which just fits the larger DMK41 sized chip.
(You'll get some nice images from the PST, but nothing like those from a 90mm Ha scope at ten times the price!!)

The sun pretty much fills 75% or so of the view with the included eyepiece, seemed usable to me?. I dont know, what do ppl look for in a solar viewing scope? (apart from res, which depends on apature I guess).

Two questions
1) are the newer 'blue' pst scopes as good visually as the older models that were prone to rust
2) can you use a binoviewer with the pst?

1. Yes just as good if not better

The original PST was designed as a visual Ha solar telescope and has limited backfocus available to fit cameras.....

I use a 10.4mm TV plossl - gives good results with the PST.

Shame the PST doesn't work with a binoviewer

I'm hoping down the track to get a PST and convert it to become a much bigger aperture by retrofitting to something else.
