Have a go at processing this

I did a quick run with the hyperstar last night and a 45 second unguided exposure of Orion at F2 on a C9.25 SCT.
I just thought I'd post the file here if anyone wanted to have a go at processing. It has trailing stars and other issues which makes it a good one to learn on.
So anyone thinking of getting into AP, have a go at this, and see if you can polish a turd.

I just tested it, yes right click on the link and choose 'Save Link As' if using firefox, or 'Download Linked File' in Safari.

Got it into a TIFF file, opened it in CS5. The core is blown out but a lot of outer detail there.

I'm not all that experienced in photoshop yet, but here's my quick attempt.

Nice Paula. I like the 3D effect in your processing of Peter's data. This is the sort of image that I would like to end up with myself.

I just realised I didn't even say what the image was of, or post a reference image!

This was what I got from it after a very quick stretch in Nebulosity. I'll be interested to see what anyone else makes of it.

Peter you might want to consider posting a link to a TIF rather than a FIT.
Most people in the beginners astrophotography world wouldn't know what a FIT it or how to convert it.

Good point Mike, though I guess the learning starts right here then with working out how to open/convert that file

Some FITS resources are here:
http://www.artsnova.com/astronomyimages.html

Alternatively, here is a link to the file converted to a 16bit .tiff

www.mudgee.net/ot/oriontif.tif

The file poses some fun challenges, there are some troublesome gradients, a bit of trailing and some colour issues that all need work.
