The Spider in NGC 2070

Hi all,

Here's a recent image of the Tarantula Nebula, you can really see the spider!

There's a higher resolution image here http://www.skylab.com.au/pmsa/Tarantula%20Nebula.html

regards to everyone
Paul Mayo

Paul,

Once again, that's beautiful.

Is the purple colour of the nebula the captured colour, or have you played with it in post-processing?

Regards,
Humayun

Yes a great image. Thats the captured colour. Unmidified DSLRs shower a lighter shade but the Ha enabled cameras let in much more red light from Ionized Hydrogen in nebulae giving the pink colour from a mix of Hydrogen Alpha (red) and ionized Oxygen and Hydrogen beta (greenish) to give pink.
See spectrum here, of a deep sky filter

Very nice image Paul. can see the spider clearly. With my spider, the natural colour came out green/brown/yellowish with IR Filter removed. That colour looks suberb.

That's a good question and I think tornado33 has given a suitable answer.

Here's an image of the Tarantula prior to the camera blocking filter modification.
Pre-Mod: http://www.skylab.com.au/pmsa/images...015_18_21M.jpg

You will see it looks more green (rather than purple) in the pre-modded image.

cheers
Paul M
