Heads UP 13th Feb, The Moon

The Moon

(Repeat)

  • 8.30pm - 9.30pm
  • SBS TWO
  • Tonight
ALT. TIMES

An exploration of the lunar landscape and its countless craters - the scars from millions of years worth of impacts. How the moon was formed is still unconfirmed, but the latest thinking suggests it was created after a collision between the Earth and a Mars-sized planet early in the Earth's history.

I caught most of this documentary. I am glad that the producers covered the laser ranging facility that measures accurate distances to the Moon. Love to have that gear set up in my back yard!

Even though this show was a good production, I think the best Moon documentary to date was put together by Ron Howard. He interviewed surviving Astronauts, covered the history of lunar exploration and used lots of quality footage. He did not cut any corners and the final cut pays homage to the achievements of the American Space Program.
