Did this mosaic of the sun taken with my PST today. It is a composite of 20 images. All the avis were processed in Registax and the individual images stitched together in Photoshop CS5.
I'm astounded by what 40mm of aperture can pick up.

Hi Richard - that is a great mosaic - the PST are great scopes.
I am always amazed what we can pick up on the Sun - but I guess it has the same angular size as the Moon and some of the current features on the Sun (like the monster filament) are much larger (angular size) than features on the Moon that are easily observed.
The large AR can bee seen with the naked eye. I held up my white light solar filter to the Sun today and easily saw it and some of the smaller ones. It is amazing that we can see these thing from 150 million km away!
