Sol in White light March 10, Brisbane

Things are pretty weird around here. First the sky changes colour for its normal grey to something that might be blue (I had to google the colour, it appears it is common for the sky to be this colour ), then I was able to get the scope out without being washed away.

Anyway, did some ordinary planets last night, then tried my hand at the sun today. The full aperture was too much for the camera and I had to stop it down to about 25 mm. I would have liked to play with the focus a bit more, but I slipped and sprained my ankle just before the mask was ready. Middle child Hadar snapped the shots while I waited for the ambulance.

The illumination of the disk is a bit asymmetrical and probably due to the position of the mask, but I wasn't in a position to play with it. Just happy with what I ended up with.

Sooooo long since I had the scope out.

Tony

Super job on that White light image. How are you using the 450D to record the image?

Thanks Al.

Eric I'm using my WO 110 on my NEQ6, and Baader photographic film. I'm finding that there is too much light so I've stopped it down to about 25 mm with a cardboard mask. I don't think I had the aperture central hence the poor illumination on one side of the disk. But I didn't have a chance to play with it after I twisted my ankle... Thems the breaks, pardon the pun :-).

Hi Tony

So, a WO 110 has replaced the Vixen 4 inch eh! A nice set of very detailed, clean images – top work.

Sorry to hear about your ankle – I hope that the rest of the Surma clan is waiting on you hand and foot whilst you convalesce!

Get better soon.

If you are getting overwhelmed by light, have you tried the visual Baader film to make the best use of that nice WO ‘scope?

Cheers

Dennis

Thanks Dennis. I've had the WO since Astrofest 2010, and I still use the Vixen for a guide scope for the most part, although at f10 it yields a large disk on the camera chip. I had considered the visual film I just didn't get round to doing it.
