As far as I can tell, it's just another app that takes photos, but it has a whole heap of 'filters' that you can apply to give it retro looks etc.

It can make people think they're taking really good photos when they're not, but it's getting people taking loads of photos!

Which is no doubt why Facebook just bought Instagram for $1bn!

I downloaded it but when I found I needed to login to use it, haven't gone any further with it.

There are alternatives like Snapspeed which give the same kind of filters but you just save or share the pic as you wish.

Roger.

The surprising thing is for a program that was named Apple app of the year in 2011,

Until now I'd never heard of it, I will never use it, just like I don't use Facebook, Tweeter etc

$1billion what a farce, paper money and that's all it is.

I don't facespace either.
Twatter and all those other things don't mean diddly.
I barely use a phone and I try to use proper English at all times.
Which is probably why I rub people up the wrong way when I post on here

The art of talking face to face has been lost on this generation of youth.

Our adventures growing up were not shared with the world via mindless prattle on the internet, mobile phones, SMS or by endless photos posted on various social sites for the world to see.

We shared our adventures with those that mattered on viewing nights, as our stories were told over food and drinks, in a more civilized manner.

Albeit I do post many of my Astrophoto's on Flickr and my own website with a few general ones but you'd be lucky to see a photo of me or my family, except maybe my dogs posted on any of the sites I do post too.

My personal life in most instances is just that, IIS is a rare site as are most astronomy related forums where intelligent, often middle class people, who share common interest's.

I took up astronomy more seriously because I found the Astro Club I go to had 'normal', reasonably intelligent folks in it.
I get to talk to folks without the added burden of trying to find words shorter than two syllables.
The stars are incidental....

I hope I'm not being condescending - but it's nice to know that there are real people out there who don't text while you're talking to them.

I went on a cruise a couple of weeks ago to celebrate a 60th (mine was last month). I watched people in the departure lounge waiting to board. The kids were texting and so were half of the parents.
The men were on the phone and only the newly weds were looking into each other's eyes.

A week later and they were departing. Barely any of them had a phone in their hand. There were very few gameboys either.
