As a new interest I have been experimenting with 3D "home movies". To annoy the visitors?
What a frustrating hobby. I bought a JVC GS-TD1. A very nice camera that takes full resolution HD 3D movies and a lower resolution side by side format that can be put on a DVD.
The camera can be connected directly to a 3D TV via HDMI and viewed with suitable glasses. This is OK as a preview mode and looks great but the problems arise when you want to edit and store a movie for later play from a DVD.
The camera is packaged with "Pixela" "Everiomediabrowser 3D" software.
This is where the problems are. It is the most user unfriendly software I have ever used. It will only work with the storage on the camera and is very erratic in starting.
If you want to make a short movie you need to plan it carefully so that you have all the necessary clips needed to make your movie. You can't add external data although there is a messy way to do this by overwriting files on the storage media with substitute clips but if you turn the camera on and off it will update the media and you will lose your "specials"
I converted an old 2D home movie into a 3D version today using "PowerDirector" from CyberLink. Amazing what you can do with modern technology. It actually made an acceptable 3D version of the old movie when played on a 3D TV at my first attempt.
The conversion of a *.MPG into a *.M2TS file took about 20 minutes but the transfer to a DVD disk too 2 3/4 hours for a 25 min movie.
I have a 3D video display program Stereoscopic player that will display the raw or edited clips from my camera on the Computer in anaglyphic mode.
You need to select the half colour red/cyan mode and the brain will see them as in full colour.
When I feed the computer video to the 55 in TV (non 3D) I get a surprisingly good 3D view using the anaglyphic glasses especially when I set the computer to 1920 x 1080 resolution and go full screen.
