Hi everybody.....I was just wondering what would be a really good replacement focuser ,( besides the ever-so-expensive moonlight focusers), for my gso 12 inch focuser. The last time I was out observing, my focuser was shifting from the weight of my 9mm nagler type 1. Somebody already informed me of the locking device on the existing gso focuser and those small allen key bolts to tighten it up. I am going to be running into a nice little heap of cash and I wanted to buy a new focuser. Looks like either a JMI-NGF DX3 or DX2. Even the Williams optics ones look very nice. I was just concerned about the holes in these two diff kinds. would they be the same?..or even close so that I wont have a problem installing them????.....thanks for reading this post...and clear skies to you.

FWIW , it looks identical to the William optics one and it appears to be constructed in a way as to fit different bases for different scopes, even SCT's
Well you mentioned no moonlites, but the moonlite is a fantastic focuser. I installed mine a couple of weeks ago.
I had to drill 4 new holes in the tube to fit it, but that wasn't nearly as scary as it first seems. Measure twice, drill once.. and the template and instructions provided by DBA Astronomy really made the job easy and not stressful at all.
The fine focus knob really makes a difference at high mags.
Heres an idea for some one with an old focuser who wants to experiment with it .
Remove the Teflon wear strips from the housing and then drill and fit several of these>>Grub screw ball tip.
It will kinda make it into a Semi Crayford but you still have a rack in pinion.
This just gives an adjustable roller surface for the draw tube to ride on.
You can put 3 or 6 (one front and back) of them at 120degs to each other. This wil stop the rock and roll of the draw tube.

Mike, I umm, built my own electronic R&P focuser. Had to. Orig. was bloody aweful.

I can slow it down to a craaaawwwwl, and since replacing/repacking the teflon strips, I now have no slop or image shift. Cost $6.00 for the bits.
