The sun, 23/1/12

Was out doing a bit of a solar watch yesterday and was stunned to see the brightest and most massive plage I've seen since I got my Ha filter. It looked like someone had gouged a slice out of the surface and the flesh underneath could be seen. Only lasted about 30 minutes before settling down. Then I saw this opn the Age web site and realised I'd seen the aftermath of this massive CME. I was very excited. Hope someone on IIS got to image it.

Woah, that would have been pretty awesome, It would have been a fine site from a Ha filter. I've seen some images of the sun under Ha light, and it really does come to life. Nice going Patrick
