Thor's Helmet. Inspired from Scott

Decided to give Thor's Helmet a go last night. Your pic Scott inspired me to give Thor's Helmet a go since it is a hard object. Doesn't look like a helmet argh well. might try again tonight.

16 x 2 minute exposure stacked with Meade DSI.

Well done, Im glad I helped inspire you to go after challenging objects like this. Youve recorded the bubble quite nicely. The "wings" are red and thus mostly from Hydrogen Alpha light and can be much harder to record. Keep up the good work.

That image has a very eyepiece like view to it - one of my favourite nebulas to view under a dark sky with large aperture.

Well done!

here is my effort (http://antwrp.gsfc.nasa.gov/apod/ap060202.html)with the handheld box browny with my dog trying to pull my shoe off. hand stacked and randomly distributed with poker deck, then multi poofed aligned with a cattle prod.

now i am dribbling!

Nice shot Ezy.

Your going ahead in leaps and bounds. Does your DSI have the IR filter in it? If Thor's Helmet is mainly Ha then maybe try it without the IR filter. It'd be interesting to see how it looks anyway.

Yes if theres a removable IR filter it would be good to try shooting without it.

Eric, you should be able to remove the IR filter by unscrewing the nosepiece. The filter is mounted on a round piece of plastic held by the nosepiece. Be very careful if you have an older model DSI where the filter is mounted on glass. You can crack the filter if you tighten up the nosepiece too tight.

I was playing with the DSI just then and it can come off. Never knew. Thanks Adam.

I took more pics of Thor's Helmet last night. Might have to give it another go without the IR Filter tonight.
