Orion Nebula

Didn't get a chance to do an LRGB for a very long time. Last night was quite good from my place for few hours to get some data, will have to add some more lum in the future. My shorter exposures were not short enough to reveal the core but by the time i realized it it was too late! will have to wait for next clear night I think! All together

7x 10min L
7x 5min R bin 2
7x 5min G bin 2
9x 5min B bin 2

color looks a bit unusual but my color calibration skill is way too low.

You have some nice dust detail in there which I am struggling to get.

Yes, certainly get the shorter exposures to improve the core there.

Very nice image.

Nice image. Something looks a bit out on the core. Possibly need a shorter exposure.

Thanks for the kind comments guys. I will have to work out the core with shorter exposure next time I get some clear sky.

my first go at HDR processing. Haven't got to RGB yet

17x 10sec Lum
35x 10min Lum

I think i am not getting much benefit out of stacking longer subs on Lum due to my sky background and would benefit from more of shorter exposure (3 or 4min max). All the sky background calculators tend to point me to that direction.

I probably should also have few other varying length of exposures in between two extreme ends to have smoother transition.

Hey Sad, apart from the core as you say...that's a pretty good image mate, if you do get more data you could rework it into a great one for sure

A good Orion Nebula image is worth the attention

Amazing amount of dust and faint detail coming through. Looking forward to seeing the HDR result on this one!

The image is not so bad Sadia. Maybe a little less work on the outlying nebulosity will improve things a bit but in reality nothing beats extra exposure to control noise and even a little less overall softening.

Keep at it. This is a hard target to capture let alone get every aspect right.

As Mike says its worth putting the time in as this will improve greatly. Lots of good data you've got seen with all the dust below the Running Man.

John.

Hope you don't mind Sadia, but I couldn't help myself in combining your spectacular photos just to see what they looked like.

Edit - worked out how to upload images here so I took the shot off of Flickr

Best wishes,
Cam

Nicely done Cam, don't mind at all. You have managed to do it better than what I did with the original data.

I have spent some time trying to process this. I am attaching a crop of the core to show how it looks like currently, to be honest I am not very happy with the result so far but i need a break from processing this image and come back at a later time with a fresh mind (Now I know why everyone keeps saying it is a hard object to process).

Sadia, your core crop is spectacular!

Do remember that the whole bright core is illuminated by those trapezium stars so don't make them too small and tidy.
They are very bright stars, so try do them some justice, It's OK to leave them a bit brighter, just don't allow then to wash out the core

Nice job still

Hi
Was this taken with an RC? If so, images from these optics seem to have a 3d feel to them and have so much depth.
Amazing details. Where we're they taken from?

Thank you, Was taken through 6" Apo and from a typical light polluted Melbourne suburb. Initial intention was to show outer dim areas but had to scrap the idea soon as I realized longer subs were not adding any value due to usual light polluted sky background.
