Jupiter 19th March - new image scale

Well, I need to go to bed after all this excitement and to be honest, the 5x powermate is the best piece of equipment ever invented ever...ever!!!

Put some tape around the cheapie extension tube so the fit was tighter in the powermate and absolutely loved the extra scale.

Surprised that the image was not washed out through loss of light etc.

Some quick registx run throughs.
The first one is a 10fps optimised colour and 2nd is a 5fps raw colour.

The extension piece is a cheap plastic barlow from a cheap telescope that was in a throw out box at bintel melbourne. I used a holesaw to cut out the central supports. Pictures and measurements will now to go to Steve mogg.

Hi Davo, I like the optimised colour best I think. Image scale is great, much more like Mike's - is he using an extension now? You must be getting ~7x with this now?

Just look back 12 -18 months ago and compare the images posted on this forum...huge improvements.

Mike image scale is the same as mine roughly before this. We both pull the toucam adapter out as far as we can of the 5x powermate to increase the distance.

Here is a comparison with those other image scales. mine is on the right.

This extension will be going to mike for him to have a play with now that it is working.

no, mike is the same as me before these ones, we have been pulling the toucam adapter as far as it will go out of the 5x powermate. now we should be getting close to the 7.7x. I am sending to Mike to have a play with to see what scale he can get.

One thing you have to be careful of with the "scale comparison image" you've got, is what diameter the planet was at the time of capture... It can make quite a difference if it was captured at 30", versus 41" which it is now approaching opposition.

Ok, how do you come to the conclusion that with a 100mm extension you get 7.7X ? I only ask because I'm trying to work out what I'm running at now (math? never heard of it!)
