IC2220 (Butterfly) and 47 Tuc ...

Hi folks,

Finally got out the other night for the first time in quite a while. This is also the first time I've shot darks for my pics. I noticed during processing how much of a difference they made. Next time I'll try adding flats as well me thinks.

Keen for any pointers and advice.

Stellarvue SV105 f/6.2 Triplet APO
EQ6 Pro (no guiding)
Canon 450D (un-modded)

IC 2220 - Butterfly Nebula
Not the greatest shot. It was actually really very small in the original image so I'm wondering if shooting with a 4 x Powermate in the path would be worth trying?

10 x 90s @ 400ISO
10 x 90s @ 1600ISO
20 darks at each of the above
No flats

47 Tuc
Only two subs in this one. The main photo is 60s @ 400ISO. For the core (which blew out at 60 seconds) I masked in a 30s exposure. Not sure if it works though.

Am wondering ... for globular clusters like this, is it usual to use many subs like you would with a nebula? I found that even when I stacked 2 subs the resulting image was incredibly blurry. Probably a function of no-guiding perhaps?
