Did anyone see stars in Daylight ?

Just curious. On nice days with a crisp blue sky I take my telescope (25cm Dob or 10cm Genesis when on holiday) and look up some bright stars.

It is amazing and challenging how faint one can go.

Double stars with a +5 companion (like Albireo and Cor Caroli) show both components, even in a 10cm.

Without telescope I managed to see Sirius in full daylight but that was in 1986 during an Australia trip when it was high in the sky. And I saw Alpha Centauri once at sunrise with the NE.

I have not done any star viewing in daytime, but find this very interesting, as to how faint a star can be viewed through telescope in day time. I have viewed Jupiter and Venus naked eye in day time.

yes i have done quiet a bit,rigel kent is a visable double during daylight...i did orion and taurus last year and i thought i could see the trapezium in m42...saturn and jupiter are also visable as long as not to close to sun....

Only ever seen Venus close to the moon late morning a while back when on of the IIS members mentioned it
Both naked eye, binos and took some pics.....now if only I can remember where I put those pics ( IOW what was that date again last year?)

I regularly look for Venus and Jupiter during the day... just cause I can. I like to teach kids to do this too. They get a buzz out of it once they realise they can see them if they know where to look.

I have also observed Sirius and Antares naked eye during the day (as well as comet McNaught of course).

I have not seen any during the day except at my visit at Mt John Observatory at Lake Tekapo, NZ. I had to be shown by one of the helpful staff there, we took a look through one of the low powered scopes there. Amazing to see!

Hi,

Venus with the unaided eye.
In the 1970,s while in Andamooka I was down an opal mining shaft, and looked up and was surprised to see a few stars. As I was only eleven had no idea which stars they were.

I have actually viewed stars and planets in the daytime.
After very long nights when the sun starts coming up I head off for a final coffee before I pack up.
When I get back to the scope for strip down and pack away the sun is waayyy up and it's daytime. I give the old GoTo's a final few objects and yep, there they are. Stars and planets in broad daylight
Visually they are quite easy to see.

I did try to image them once without luck. All I got was totally white images! I did get some daytime Moon images though.
To get the stars and Saturn I needed to experiment with camera settings more but I had to go out so I missed the chance and havn't tried again since.

hmmm . . must try that again soon.
