Hi everyone. I have a question RE the safe photographing of the venus transit and Solar Eclipse. Do i need any special filters for my DSLR for takings pics of the Sun. Also i have heard of special eclipse eyeware for protection. Thanks.
Yes, for viewing or photographing the surface of the sun you will need appropriate solar filters. Filters are required for the transit and for the partial phase of the solar eclipse. However during totality it is safe to look at the sun since the surface of the sun is obscured and only the 'atmosphere' is visiable - indeed this is the point of traveling to see an eclipse.
Suitable filters are available from (I imagine) any reputable telescope shop and are not expensive.
