m78 last post for awile

This shot of M78 was shot over 4hrs 20min and could be my last shot for some time unfortunatly my 40d cooled camera shorted out and blew the cooling system and power supply fried it,i was hoping to do at least 10hrs worth,not to be ,2 nights combined unfortunatly heaps of noise in my darks from night two with no cooling

AL - i am sorry for your loss, the past 12 months hasnt been great for you electrically has it? I hope that Yun might be able to save it without great expense?

Try the modded 20D as that actually has very low noise and shoot at 800ASA. I think you would be surprised.

That's a good result Alan but bad news about the camera

What's involved in the repair? Have you got another camera?

Thanks guys thanks to Houghy who got my camera up and running again t,the main power lead had burnt out and welded itself into the cooler so we tested it with a new lead and its up and running no internal damage thank goodness ..you are right AL the 20d is much less noise .will have to do more images,it was interesting without the cooler on the unit heated up at least 10deg more than the ambiant temp.

Good effort Al on a difficult target to process

buy a cooled CCD camera IMO

Nice picture but put yourself out of misery and get a CCD camera because from now on you will be very wary while imaging and think this night it will be the last for my camera.
