comet lovejoy

can the comet be seen from the Melbourne east subs ...if so what direction and time ... also can it be seen with the naked eye ....many thanks

Sure can Rob.

It's in the East rising in Scorpius. Best views are from 3am-4am AEDST. However the tail starts rising from around 2am AEDST.

It can be seen naked eye, just need good easterly horizon, ideally away from light pollution.

Hi Rob, Providing your view towards the horizon in the south east is relatively free of light pollution you should be able to see the comet. It stretches up about 30 degrees from the horizon before the sky lightens too much with the rising Sun.

If I was down that way, I'd head to the beach to get a view over the sea.
