Jupiter & Saturn Dec 21st 2011

Hi All,

Imaged Jupiter last night in conditions that looked promising but didn't really deliver.

Hit the deck again at 4 am for Saturn to make a start on this apparition. At just on 30 degree alt I had no great expectations but was pleased to get some data.

Have posted 2 Jups & 2 Saturn data sets as RGB & 807nm IR.

Thanks for looking.
Regards
Trevor

What no Mars
Seriously though These aren't too bad Trevor considering the poor conditions.
I wouldn't even bother with Mars ATM unless the seeing was nice at least

Nice views again Trevor, thanks. I presume that was Saturn I saw this morning rising below Spica while shooting the comet.

All the best.

Trevor that's a very nice Saturn with some good ring detail. Looks like we were imaging it within minutes of each other that morning

Nice images. The storm on Saturn has been unbelievable and looking at your picture there is still a whitish band in that area!

Nice Trev despite the conditions. Cassini all the way around on the rings is pretty nice. Looking forward to imaging it this coming apparition.

Thanks Rob, looking forward to imaging Saturn at a higher alt and not so much in the morning twilight but this is a start.

Thanks Lester and yep that was Saturn near Spica. Loving your images of Comet Lovejoy and plan on having a crack at it in the morning.

Thanks Tom, still a pretty rough image but I was pleased to get some detail at 30 degrees alt.

Thanks Troy, yes, a band of the dredged up material from the storm still remains, even in this pretty low res image. With more alt and away from the morning twilight I expect we will all be getting a much better look at what remains.

Thanks Paul, well, its a start. It looked a lot more stable in IR but then low alt is where the IR really does shine.
Must have been a nice way to start the day, imaging the comet from Pt Sturt, a very nice result indeed and a lovely spot to image from.

I have given up with Jupiter but Saturn looks great with more open rings and will be 70 deg alt next year. Think the storms faded but better ring detail next time.

John.
