I am about to replace my old shed with a new observatory. Not having much experience with building DIY before - has anyone built thier observatory from the skyshed plans ??? are they any good ? are they worth the $$

cheers

I have them and they are ok but annoyingly all in imperial measure.
The ebook / book How to build a roll off roof observatory by John Hicks isnt too bad imho .

HI Mark

thansk for the reply

I was concerned that they would be in imperial - makes it a bit annoying if you have to convert it all before you order it from the hardware doesn't it.

Yes the pics vary in there usefulness but most time not enough detail .
I think the book is better value if somewhat dated .

When I was in high school back in the early 80's the school library had a book by Patrick Moore which showed how he built his backyard observatory.

To this day I wish I'd flogged that book!

Cheers,
Jason.

I used a 3m x 3m absco for my obs. It was my garden shed. Its still not quite finished but i am happy with how it is going. It was quite an easy job to do. It has certainly increased the usage of my scope. I got my design ideas from this link

Hi Brendan,

Thanks
I'm thinking 3m by 4m because i want to sit at a desk and also house my books and other star stuff -

Does anyone store their books etc in a roll off design - im thinking there might be too many creepy crawlys and moisture?

cheers

Hi Karen

I bought the skyshed plans a few years ago and find them to be well set out.

I showed them to a mate who is a carpenter and he thought that they were set out quite well and detailed.

The conversions from imperial to metric are not that much of a problem, just a bit time consuming in the first instance.

I also noticed that the price still hasn't changed either from when I purchased mine.
