If any of you travel along Kenthurst Road, Kenthurst towards Round Corner at night you will see a massively over-lit sign at number 85. The sign belongs to Hills Community Church. I am presently in touch with Glen and Judy Stanley, the owners of the sign.
Glen is not happy about me showing interest in the 'way over- lit' sign.
Their e-mail address is (Ask me) If you have seen the sign you might like to support me by expressing your own 'concern' over the dangerous light polluting sign that is situated just before a bend in the road. The company that installed the sign is "Changeable Signs" phone number 1300 762 764. They are not in the least interested. Such a bright sign that is uncomfortable for people and dangerous for traffic barely belongs in the centre of the bright city such as Kings Cross, certainly not in a dark rural setting such as Kenthurst.
Ken
PS; my aim is to have the light output of the sign reduced to suit the surroundings. No abuse please.

Here is the offending sign showing the bend in the road .
One is driving in almost pitch darkness, then the sign lighting blinds you, you then have to contend with the bend in the road. Not to mention the light is shining above the horizontal and up into the night sky adding to sky glow. The street light is illuminating the curve in the road.
Thanks for your interest
Ken

I'm not defending anything about the sign, but I don't think it's appropriate to post their email address here publicly. These forums get skimmed by spammers etc, so putting someone's email address up like that will potentially/probably get them on some spam list. I'd suggest it get removed and ask people to contact you via PM for the actual email address. Sorry to sound like a netkop, you've probably posted it innocently, but the ramifications could be a bit nastier.
Good luck with the sign, looks as if it may be able to move some people closer to god that they might wish. I wish someone could do something about airport lighting, its way over the top.
You having seen the above light polluting sign which the sign lighting industry is responsible for please take this opportunity to help yourself by telephoning the above sign company and let them know what you think about the damage they cause to the night environment like light pollution and energy waste

Good luck with your local authority If it is anything like mine, you will get absolutely nowhere. I had a problem with a street light and the council said "tough". But after getting it touch with my local member of parliament, things did happen and I finally got something done. It is shielded now, yippeeee
Yes, contact your local authority first, if no luck, contact you member of parliament. Might get a better outcome.
Good idea Peter.
But I suddenly thought of an even better one, seeing we are all affected by light pollution and we have close to 900 or is that 1000 members on Iceinspace it should be a simple matter of getting say 'at least' 100 members to send an e-mail ( I do have the owners e-mail address) to the owners of the sign with a few polite words describe why they should either turn off the lighting or minimise the light output of the sign.
All for it?

That may be effective IF the sender is affected by the sign but I think just a bunch of random senders (me for example on the other side of the ditch ) is just going to make the whole thing a bit of a joke.
Trying to hammer them with a flood of complaints is not necessarily the best way to get it sorted, you may get labelled a 'stirrer' regardless of how valid the issue is.
I'd go down the 'Authorities' route first but certainly enlist help from locals where possible.
It does look bad btw. The glare would almost effectively blind you to the corner as you approached. Good luck with sorting it.

True that; my sentiments exactly. Although, rather than us, those not located there, complain about about the actual light, we could all send him some information regarding LIGHT POLLUTION. When I wrote to my local member of parliament I included articles on "dark adaption" and why white light was our enemy.
Also, check the local by-laws regarding lighting before embarking on a campaign, as they may be in breach anyway. There are two standards that govern lighting anyway, one of which deals with street lighting. Check with Standards Australia.
Also, another route may be to take it to a current affair show and package it as adding to "greenhouse gases" and a "total waste of electricity". Carbon Tax and Climate change is all the news right now anyway. Not much point in trying to tackle it from a dark skies point as they simply just don't give a damn!
