help. acar aspire has died in spain?
Hope someone can help. My little acer aspire one will not power up.
Have tried a few things I found on net, like taking. battery out, holding power button down 4 minute, holding f8 and f12 when powering up.
Zilch. Blank screen. And a whirring noise like its trying.
Am using it a Lot so hoping someone cam help.
All my pics are on it too : c

Now that's a real call for remote diagnostics Liz.
Does it give any sequence of beeps when you turn it on? The number and pattern of these mean specific things. eg 3 quick then a gap then 2. You'd need to give us the exact model number to be sure to interpret them right.
It could be the screen. Does the screen show any light - even just the backlight - when you power it up? If the screen is working the BIOS should throw up some messages as it loads.
Does pressing "Caps Lock" or "Num Lock" light up those? If those work then the BIOS is loading.
Do you get any disk activity lights? If not it might be the CPU fan you are hearing.
If you are getting any of the status lights flashing you could try plugging an external screen into the video port to test if it is the screen that has died. If it was the video card you should get a beep code.
Any more clues you can provide might give you more things to try.

Thanks Andrew, ok, no beeping going on at all just a faint whirring, nothing on screen at all, nothing happens with caps lock.

Try disconnecting the power, removing the battery, reconnecting the power and try to start up with the battery still removed.
You can also try connecting it to an external monitor.

Hi Liz,
I think this is the thing I mentioned to you that happened to mine it is the netbook that this has happened to right I am providing a link that explains how to fix it but rest assured if it is the bios problem and you can't sort it out over there I will fix it for you when you come back.

I got mine going again by having the battery out and the laptop disconnected from the power for about an hour, and then firing it back up without the battery in it.
If it is the bios though, then supernova's way is the only way to recover it.

Any thoughts of walking into a geek style store and asking for a youngish looking salesman to help, who knows they may make it go.

His English wasn't good, as o tried to day about the acer aspire problems oh well, gave it a go. Now up to warren.
No warren, I didn't leave it om fridge long.30 min tops, as thought bit silly.

I thought Liz might have had a few to many sangria's!!!!
Apart from the whirring noises Liz, does it make any clicking/ticking noises?- just to rule out HDD failure..... .
Hope it works out for you....

Dont think its the HDD Bart, if the Bios would start, and show anything on the screen, one of the items it would report is the HDD failure.
First thing on POST (Power On Self Test) is run the BIOS, no Bios, no nuffink....
Sounds like its the Bios issue reported by Warren (and suggested on FB ).
Dont depair Liz, looks like a simple fix with a USB key, keep it safe till you get back, maybe buy another memory card for the camera in the meantime.
Stay safe and enjoy the rest of your now "low tech" holiday, we can wait for the rest of the pics....
Cheers
Chris

Mine died twice now, a fairly common problem.
This is the only way to fix them, a tad fiddly but it works !
Use a USB memory stick
