first go at tarantula

collected some data last night in spite of the moon messing things up. standard pentax k-5, 103mm vixen scope 3x3mins 3x6mins 3x12mins all at 80iso as an experiment mainly to check tracking with phd. chucked it all in to deep sky stacker and then photoshop, i guess these will get better as i learn to process. it was just nice to see the sky for a change
regards brad

Looking good for a first go Brad and I know what you mean about seeing the sky!

I hope you mean iso 800 not 80!!

I'm surprised there isn't more colour in your image but it seems your tracking is pretty good. Try a bit more data next time and you'll help (as jjj says) "tame the noise"!

cheers

niko

LOL @ Niko

Very nice for a first. You've set your bar and it's only up from here.

thanks guys gotta start somwhere, i discovered that i had collimation issues which i worked out today so that means a while longer with crap weather and yes it was 80 iso, i wanted to test the guiding and a guy in italy has been having a lot of success with this body at 80, it gives you 14 stops of dynamic range and forces me to hone my guiding

Brad, I've been doing ISO 800. I am trying ISO 400 for better noise performance but at the price of having to do longer subs.

Keep trying in the same area each night and you'll quickly improve some skills.

ISO80 though?? I think the guys and gals here will probably suggest ISO400 and higher as a minimum.

Good luck!
Darrin...

Its more or less an experiment i am not that excited by the processing side of things, some love it....me to a far less degree. i was looking at this guy's site he uses no flats or darks and gets reasonable results i thought i would try building on his results, if it dosn,t work out then i can go down the traditional path with not much lost. have a look at his shots
