After a lllloonnggg process trying to get guiding up and running, I'm making some progress
. Due to mount issues that I can't seem to resolve, I have given up guiding in DEC. This means good polar alignment is a must.
Anyways, here's my first ever attempt at capturing the Tarantula. Technical details:
- Mount: EQ6
- Scope: 8" Newt
- Camera: unmodded canon 400D
- Guide scope: 60mm f/11.7 tasco refractor
- Guide camera: unmodded toucam
- Exposure: 5x5min
- ISO1600
- Hutech IDAS LPS-P2
- No coma correcter. I assume that's coma in the corners?
- Flats and darks applied. I used Al's Virtual Light Box for this. First time ever using it so not sure how they would turn out.
- Stacked using DSS and processed in PS
My next step is to learn image processing. I only have a basic understanding such as curves and levels.
I'm not sure on the colour. I know I won't be able to get the "red" colour given I am using an unmodded camera. Plus, this was the first time I used the LPS filter, which produces a blue cast. Any feedback would be appreciated. Not a bad first attempt if I say so.
