Motherhood (Tawny Frogmouth and chick)

Some of the recent photos I've seen of Tawny Frogmouths with young have provoked serious photo envy in me. At last my longing to catch such a scene has been fulfilled with a nesting mum in a River Red Gum at the bike path near my office in Kangaroo Flat. I am well pleased. I hope to follow the progress of this family for a bit.

These are great paddy.
For a few years we had a pair of Froggies that nested in the next door neighbour's tree.
I have about a gazillion photos of them and their young.
You're right too following their progress is just fantastic.

Lucky too, I haven't seen a frogmouth in years. Last one was pretending to be a broken-off branch...but on the windscreen pillar of my car in the driveway....

Yes, sad at it's vulnerability, trying to be invisible on a glass and steel human machine, but I felt very privileged all the same.

Funnily enough, I have just been told where I might find a nest with a Frogmouth in it. I will head out there on Tuesday on my way back to the dingoes and see if I can get it.

I had to have another look.
I love how basic their nests are too.
Just some twigs,sticks and leaves stuck on a big branch.
I hope you can follow their progress for awhile yet.
