Illuminated Reticle

Hi all, i am making an illuminated reticle eyepiece. I have an old Celestron 20mm i can experiment on and i have two etched lenses from the US, just $6.95 including postage !. And i can easily make a red led rheostat illuminator with my odd and bobs draw, i did the same for my setting circles. My question is, where does the red led go, in line with the etched lens, above, below.
