WINDOWS 7 Programs
Does anyone know of an Astronomical program that runs on windows 7 .,..I can't seem to find one . , When I had the old computer (XP) I had Starry night Pro6 and it ran well .,..It wont run on widows 7 because it requires Open GL and Open GL is not compatible with the graphics card in the win 7 computer .,. I'm getting fretting attacks with no astronomy program LOL ..., Send some valium or an answer , an answer would be better I think LOL

I run The Sky X Pro and CCDSoft on a win7 64 bit lappy.
ASCOM 6 also runs with no problems.
Audela runs
Guidemaster runs
PHD runs
Mira pro does not run
Skymap Pro version 6 does not install
I'm sure there are more.

Also CdC/Skycharts (available in 32 and 64 bit), Nebulosity, Stellarium, C2A, Hallo Northern Sky.
Stellarium might not run too well without OpenGL, which is why my Windows7 64 bit lappie has an NVidia card.
Have not tried TheSky6.

I don't have any problems with Windows 7 64 bit. I did need to chase up a Video driver though. You will need OpenGL2 for Stellarium and that may be a problem with some cards. What is your video?
My biggest trouble was all the compiled Qbasic programs I have for astronomical calculations. They don't run on 64 bit. However I found QB64 a c++ shell for Qbasic that now runs everything better than ever.
I did have to rewrite the com port access, change the hot key method, make Functions (subs) out of DEF FNx(x) and change some reservered words but now they run perfectly on both Qbasic and QB64.
I thought TheSky 6 and X used direct X rather than OpenGL. I must check that out.

Sounds to me you need to upgrade the graphics drivers from the Graphics card Manufacturer's website what graphics do you have?

In my experience NVidia's OpenGL is consistently better than ATI's. Just about any modern low end NVidia card will probably be all you need.
The OpenGL for Intel's GMA video like you find on many notebooks is somewhere in the middle, but good enough to run Stellarium.
Barry, I didn't mean to suggest TheSky6 required OpenGL. I have not tried it on my Windows7 64 bit lappie so can't comment one way or the other.

The sky6 runs on Win7 64bit as a 32bit program.
You can always run programs in compatibility mode.
I run all programs on a old Dell dual core lappy with Intel graphics with no problems.
At the moment i am running those same programs on Win8 and they also run perfect and fast on the same lappy.

I took a few minutes to install TheSky6 and the latest patch for it. It runs fine on Win7 64, and a lot faster than on any of my other lappies.
