M77 and Fornax A

I was interested to see what the 10" RC could do with these galaxies from suburbia. I must admit that both of these had horrendous gradients from BrisVegas light pollution. The one in M77 was removed with PixInsight LE but it couldnt remove that in the Fornax A shot. I had to use Gradient Xterminator to finally remove most of it. Both shots taken with QSI583 while M77 was 17x10min and Fornax A was 41x10min subs. No colour as yet.
Comments welcomed.

Amazing what we can do these days really, considering the conditions just to get that much is pretty remarkable. I think NGC 1316 has so much faint irregular stuff going on around it that most gradient removal processes are in danger of removing galaxy and creating new parts .

Nice shots Allan - the colour should be great. Mike is right of course - there is a lot of faint stuff around NGC 1316 but you seem to have the main detail as far as I can see.

Cheers

Steve

Hi Alan, great stuff I reckon considering your LP..
Picking up some excellent detail.
Yeah, PI's background extraction can do some good things for gradients, and there are some objects that are just merry hell to sort....
GradX is a gem though..
Always good to have a backup when one fails..

Looks as though your scope is dialed in nicely...

Look forward to more.

Rich

A great result under trying conditions.

Mike and Steve.
You are both right as I lost a lot of faint extensions to both of these galaxies that I could see but lost with gradient removal. Darned light pollution in Brisbane kills any attempt at these types of objects but Ill maybe have to get to a dark site for any further attempts.

Like to see what you can do with those gradients, David. I have PI but still have to look at the tutorials. I know, lazy bugger.

Thanks Greg, Im waiting to see what reprocessing can do to the grayscale shots. A colour shot would have horrendous gradients to battle with unless a dark site was used..
