Anyone any thoughts on a Herschel solar wedge?

Anyone give me the heads up on a lunt/herschel solar wedge? In particular any good for photography with a small refractor?
Interested in cheap solar photography!

Not cheap as far as I can see Graham. Herschel Wedges are the ultimate for white light solar photography. Lunt has 'cheapies' (ha!) starting at nearly $US300, Baaders start at about $US600. Will work fine with small refractors but you won't get the Ha views (prominences, filaments etc). Cheapest by a mile in white light is Baader film. Good luck!

For that money I'd be more interested in getting a 2nd hand PST and modifying it.

Graham,

I've tried the Baader Herschel and it is magnificant compared to my 1000 Oaks primary filter. But the price is quite steep.

Unfortunately, my Meade 80mm refractor did not have enough in travel to achieve focus so was only tested on a FLT110.

But it was a delight. But don't expect anything like that out of the dedicated Coronados though.

I have taken some photos with my DBK so I'll see if I can find them.

Cheers,
Darrin...
