Luminous Tent Rope Tags!

In this thread http://www.iceinspace.com.au/forum/s...ad.php?t=82379

Allan (Allan_L mentions luminous tent rope tags from BCL, which I guess are these http://www.bcf.com.au/online-store/p...91#Description

I would like to know a little more about their properties. How bright, how long do they glow for? Do I need to wear Lead undies??

My thinking is that a piece of this material glued to the RA, DEC and Focus knobs of my old Orange tube C8 might make life easier. Probably other uses also.

Is this material available in sheet form? Little discs could be punched out and glued on all manner of things. (keep it clean).

I will buy the tent tags and cut them up if that is the only source of material.

Thanks Allan for suggesting this product.

Michael

YEP !
That is them !

Supposed to be for zippers!
Much more useful on tent ropes etc (and black viewing chairs) that get tripped over in the dark.

They last pretty much all viewing night, but do get duller as it progesses.
They need daylight to recharge as I recall.

I haven't seen them in other forms but I am sure they do.
Not sure about the lead undies bit.

Those look like they are made out of the same stuff that stars you put on kids bedroom walls are made out of.

Just go to national geo shop. Buy a packet of stars. You get at least 20 - 30 in one packet. use them as is or cut them to a shape you want. But a littl enylon rope through them if you want to use them on zippers.

Same outcome but much cheaper......

Kids stars dont glow all night though. So maybe these are more hard core......

I am thinking that the perfomance might be directly propotional to the mass of material. (Store more of the UV from sunlight!)

The tags look to be fairly thick as opposed to stick on stars, tape and paint etc. Must experiment with some of the stars and see.

Thanks for the suggestion.

Michael.
