What am i doing wrong?

Last night i tried imaging jupiter for the first time.

I managed to get jupiter centered for imaging. I tried focusing jupiter but i couldnt seem to get jupiter in focus. On the live preview window i could not see any details on jupiter just a white spot. What am i doing wrong?

Equipment used:

C14,Losmandy G11, Imaging source DBK21 618 with a IR cut filter.

Software used: IC Capture.AS 2.2

Hi Mark, with the capture program you need to adjust the exposure length. Sounds like you had the exposure length too long and Jupiter was over exposed. Shorten the exposure till you get a histogram of 80% full is a good guide.

All the best.

And check your gain too. I spent a few weeks imaging Saturn last year with my old Neximage camera until I realised I had the gain too high so it kept coming out white. Grrrr.

Balance your exposure and gain.

Good luck!

Hi Mark,
The detail you are trying to achieve during live preview will be 100 to 1000 times worse than images you will get after processing. Just try to achieve the best image you can then take 2-3000 frames and then use the processing techniques to most probably get the result you are trying to achieve.

Seeing conditions also affect final image as well.
