Old Transparency film from the UK Schmidt Telescope

The film on offer is some large negative transparency film that has been copied from glass plates taken at the UK Schmidt Telescope, Siding Springs NSW in the 1980s. The film was saved from being discarded from the Royal Observatory Film Library when they went digital.

When I visited the observatory many years ago, I was amazed at the film that was shown to us by Prof. Fred Watson. I didn't dream that I would ever have some. However, a small group of us mangaed to save a bundle of it when the Film Library in Edinburgh was being closed down. I have some duplicates of the film that I am offering for sale.

Each piece of film covers a field of view 5 degrees x 5 degrees, is 34cm x 34cm, and contains objects to Mag. 23 (2 million times fainter than the human eye can see). The quality is brilliant, although a small quantity of the film is marked "Reject", mostly because of satellite trails and some ghost images from reflections of bright objects within the telescopes optics. Most of the film is perfect.

If you are interested in receiving a price list on the remaining film, or if you have any questions, please email me at naomiian@bigpond.net.au

Most film is only $10 - $20 per transparency depending on how interesting it is. Postage is extra and depends on how much film you are after.

Regards
