Jupiter on a 618

Hi Everyone,

Finally had a opportunity to try out the DMK21au618. The clouds subsided for one night for me to have a go. Here's what I got, still looking over processed but getting better I think.
Reading from previous posts, I was expecting to have a maximum exposure of about 1/38sec at 30fps to get descent levels but for the unfiltered luma channel I was at 60fps 1/120sec NO GAIN... With the filters, the lowest I went to was 1/30sec with a bit of gain.

Nice shots Mariusz,
the 618 is a really sensitive camera.I shoot 1/91s at 60 fps with my c11 and still get a good histogram.I did use it with my c8 and was shooting at 1/38s for r and g and 1/30 for blue channel.I think you have silightly overprocessed the images. You can try despeckle in photoshop to reduce the noise and back off on your wavelet settings.
I think you are also slightly out of focus.I turn the gamma down to 50 -It makes focusing easier.Just dont forget to turn it back to 100 beofre you start recording.
I think the 618 is harder to focus with than the old dmk 21 just becauase the image is brighter and you have more detail

Thanks Carl,

I agree, the 618 is very sensitive, especially compared to the DMK41 I was using.
Thanks for the gamma at 50 tip.

The images are grainy (and in a strange way). How many frames did you stacked per channel? Also something is wrong with color balance. And be sure to use standard gamma settings for recordings

With ICX618 I shoot Jupiter at f/20 at 15 ms with 2/3 gain for RGB channels, and less for longpass channels. At f/30 - around 20 ms.

It is amazing what seeing and processing can do, have you had another shot at it?
These images are from the colour DFK21 camera and a C8, and though many poo-poo the one shot colour cameras for quality, you can get great results.

Nice capture there Mariusz. The Imaging Source cameras are a great little performer.

Hi Guys,

Yeah, the 618 cam is definitely a big improvement with sensitivity over the dmk41 for Jupiter shots...

Poita, if those are shots taken through a C8.... holy sh*t.... what am I doing wrong.. I must be missing something... didn't have a chance to give it another go yet, but I hope to be outside soon, especially now that the Jupiter opposition is less then 2 weeks away.

Riklaunim, I have no idea what I'm doing wrong.. but its true, my piccies are looking fake and over processed compared to other 8" SCT shots... eventually with practise I'm bound to have a AHA moment eventually,

Mariusz

Jason is using the older pre-618 camera as well, amazing results from a C8.

Re Stacked

I played with Registax using Jas' advise... Unfortunately I deleted most animations after stacking them.

All I had was Jupiter through IR Cut, through the Red filter and Saturn I did through the Celestron NexImager months ago.
