Hi Tom,

Great shot. I have a 450D and would like to have a go at planetary imaging with it. Can I ask what program do you use to capture the video and the steps you take to acquire the image. Do you process the avi in Registax? Thanks.

Hi Richard,

I use the camera's video mode to capture the video. I load the resulting .MOV file into Avidemux and save each frame as a jpg. I then drag and drop all the jpgs into Registax for stacking and processing. I use Photoshop and sometimes Canon's Digital Photo Pro to finish up the image.

I've had no experience in any other form of video capture so I can't comment on what results may be acheived by those means. The chief benefit of using a video capable DSLR, to me, is the convenience and ease of use which allows me more opportunity to capture images in the first place.

Cheers,

Tom
