Maxim Graph Problems.

I've plonked Win7 starter on a couple of machines here as it leaves out a lot of the bloat from a normal windows, uses way less ram, and seems to run faster.

The devil is in the detail however and I've found that when you close the maxim guiding graph, maxim crashes and you have to reboot to recover ascom.

It's not easy to update to another windows from the CD without hacking it, so on the off chance that someone has been there, I'm asking, does anyone know why it crashes and how to fix it. It is the only problem I've found using win7 starter on an astro PC.

It not only has less bloat (I don't think it is really bloated unless the reseller has loaded it up) it is severly hamstrung you can only run 3 programs at the same time it has been really limited to only basic tasks as far as I know.

I am not sure that is true Warren. I have a netbook running starter and frequently have more than 3 programs running.

Robin - I have also noticed that with maxim dl 5. Didn't occur to me that it might have been a windows starter issue though. I may have to upgrade....?

Internet myth Warren. It runs whatever you throw at it, Aero is missing for a start to debloat it and I think that's a good thing.

Yes adam, it does it on another 2 win starter pc's here, even without cameras attached. It only does it on my win 7 starter machines, other win7 pc's are ok.

Hmm...thanks for the info robin.

One thing you can't do with starter is remote desktop.....unless you know of a 'workaround'??

Home won't have remote desktop server either, only pro and up. That needs you to have a password on the PC which means your login will time out etc, tight vnc does not do any of that. I use that.

It has the client not the server. Keep up

[edit]
Just for others .. only the professional version of any windows or above will have a remote desktop server included.

Adam, I'll try and hack an install DVD so it will do an upgrade. If I get it to work I'll let ya know.

[edit]doesn't look good. It appears you upgrade on line or reinstall or not at all.

The maxim people have confirmed this as a bug, it does it in any windows if Aero is turned off. Will be fixed in the next release.

Doug George was talking about a new release in the next couple of weeks. Probably the day after my year of free updates is over

Adam, they said the immediate work around to the problem is to change the desktop theme to Windows Classic. I've already re installed the lappy but will try this on the obs PC when the rain stops

Well that is interesting. I have Maxim DL5 and Windows 7 starter and did not know about this problem Robin. I have never tried to turn off the graph but will know not to do this until the update happens.
