Jupiter

My 2nd attempt at jupiter. One single frame taken with 550D (my video mode didn't seem to produce any better results) -- mostly wobbly/unsharp images coming out of it.

10" newt with 2x barlow.

Hi,
nice image. You will get much better results uisng video and a sorting/stacking program like Registax. Many frames will be out of focus or distorted images due to the variation in atmospheric disturbance, but there will be some that are really sharp and detailed. The software (Registax) will sort all of the individual frames and keep all the good ones. The program will then align and stack all the good images and the end result will be a much more detailed image. When I shoot Jupiter with my color camera I take 30 frames per second for 1 minute. That gives me potentially 1800 still frames.Registax sorts through those and rejects the ones that are distorted or out of focus and I may end up with 1000-1200 individual frames that are then aligned and stacked.

I did an APT run last year with the 450d and got a reasonable stack with about 20 frames, but it needs a video with a lot more than that to get a good image
This is the image I got last year - once is butchered with wavelets!
