More from the SMC - NGC346 revisited

I had a run at this one back in July and posted here. Since then, I've not posted much and have been rebuilding the obs and waiting for my PMX to arrive.
But the last 2 nights we had a bit of clear up here so I went back and had another crack at it- at F11 through the EdgeHD 14" and an ATIK11002M Bin x2. Exposures were 150 minutes for each of Ha, O3 and S2.

As you will see, there are 2 full column defects right of the midline that no bias ormdark frames seem to be able to remove. I'm at a loss really.

Anyway, not to be perturbed, I did a simple stack and CS5 colourize with little else. They were processed Ha, O3, S2 to RGB respectively.

I was trying to capture those walls of colliding gas that bracket the southern part of the centre of this object. Hubble does it better but what they hey!!

G'day Peter,

NGC 346 is a tricky one! You've highlighted the centre section where everything seems to be happening very well.

Cheers,
Rick.

Pretty good detail Peter. I don't know what you use to process your stuff but you can remove bad columns quite easily in MaximDL using the "bad pixel map" option.

Cheers

Steve
