Blue Mountains, Katoomba Airfield September 24

Hi all,

Letting folks know that I'll be heading upto Katoomba Airfield this September 24.

Anyone else going?

Hopefully the cold won't be so intense now until next year, .

Thanks Alex,

Would love to be there, but we are away up the coast for the school holidays. The scope will be coming with us, so I will be observing the skies with you!

James

Next time then, James. Enjoy the time away with the family!

If you are considering coming, the Airfield is accessed via Medlow Bath. The last 3km of the road leading to the Airfield is unsealed, and can have some nasty erosion in it. Take it easy.

When you enter the Airfield, follow the track immediately to your left, and past the "No Entry" sign. The observing area is to the right past the collection of hangers and buildings up the 'hill', and up on the main runway on a concrete slab.

There is a second chance for observing at the Airfield on the 1st of October. You'll need to contact the Airfield for this to make arragements. My brownie points have been all used up getting a pass-out for the 24th. All or nothing for me on the first date.

Some fellows just show up. They are rather timid when it comes to writing, .

I've got my list of sketching targets ready. Been ready for close to two months, . Revarnished some of the components on Odessius too. One takes a lot of care of their gear, yet bumps and marks do happen. Thankfully nothing near fatal, .

Fingers cross you can get some sketching done. Scrubs like me wanting to take a look all through Odessius all the time must be bothersome.

Well I hope the weather holds out. I havn't used my Telescope since I was last at Katoomba airfield.

Might take it out tonight for a couple of hours and make sure everything still works!

Weather isn't looking crash hot. I think we might be beaten this time.

Hi,

It hurts but must agree, as possible thunderstorms are now forecast for the area.

No Cheers

Hi,

Alex also agrees, and advises that the Airfield outing is now postponed to 1st Oct (he cannot get to the keyboard just now).

Hope to see you there.

Cheers

Saturday 1'st of October

Thanks Geoff,

Yes, I'm looking forward to this coming Saturday now. I SOMEHOW managed to get this last Saturday's session transferred to this coming Saturday. Goodness knows how, but I'm not gonna ask too many questions...

Thankfully last week's bush fires presented no threat to the Airfield. So sad to think that there are dopes out there with matches. Dead set! Kids, yeah, I get that one, but teens and adults?

Anyone likely to stay for a couple of nights?

It gets worst. The school holidays have started... you know what that means.

I was thinking more towards more bush fires rather then baby sitting

I don't care

Edit: I should say I certainly do care about bushfires though. I have a hard time understanding what motives would drive local lads to do what those 2 teenagers are alleged to have done, starting many fires around Leura.

Looks like another wet weekend - the forecast is not favourable. I was really hoping to fly at Blackheath again before summer but at this rate its not looking likely.

Hmm not looking good at all. Oddly enough though Sunday forecasts indicate it will be clear.
