AR1289 - 18th Sept 2011 (hi-res and in technicolour too!)

Hello,

Earlier in the morning, the seeing was at times remarkably steady. For periods of say ½ second, it was easy to visually resolve the intricate detail in the sunspot penumbra and see the faculae “boiling” over regions of the image displayed on the notebook computer.

I had to increase the exposure by a factor of x2 to compensate for the smokey/hazy atmosphere in Brisbane and I also noticed a drop off in contrast compared to yesterday.

I had a go at colourising the B&W version based on a tone sampled from the Spaceweather solar image.

Details:
  • AR1289
  • 18th Sept 2011, 9:24 am AEST (UT+10)
  • Brisbane, Qld, Australia
  • Tak Mewlon 180 F12 with Tak x1.6 Extender
  • DMK31AF05.AS CCD camera
  • 244 frames from 2000 processed in AVIStack V1.8
Cheers

Dennis

Is it my imagination or are we seeing high (dark) and low (white) details in the image? It looks 3D

Nice work Dennis

This is another hit, who needs H alpha, extraordinary details and the granulation is mesmerising.

Nice work Dennis I like the granulation the best. The overall image is intricate and has just the right amount of speckle. I like the results.
