FOR SALE – Archimede Pilot 42 watch, Swiss made automatic movement
It’s less than 5 months old (purchased June 10th 2011, made beginning of June), it’s been worn about a dozen times, still has balance of 2 year international warranty (approx 19 months left), all paper work provided with the sale, purchased directly from the Archimede factory. Has a small mark on the buckle side of the strap caused when the strap is passed through the loops, it’s covered when wearing the watch, soft leather. This watch has amazing Lume properties. I have another pilot watch with Superluminova but the illumination performance is nothing compared with the Archimede.

These watches are a homage to the late 30’s early 40’s military watches worn by the airforce. The originals were often 50mm + in diameter dependant on the production company. Only five companies made these watches originally for the military, they were Laco, Wempe, IWC, A.Lange & Sohne and Stowa. There were two types, this watch I’m selling is the pilot dial, and there was also a navigator/observer dial which differed from the pilot’s. They were both large and easy to read with clear numbers and indices making it possible to read at a glance and in all lighting conditions. They were often worn on the outside of the flying jacket or on the thigh (larger strap of course) so there was no need to pull back a sleeve for example to tell the time. The large diamond shaped crown made it easy to adjust with gloves on.
The manufacturer of Archimede Watches, Ickler GmbH, has more than 80 years experience in the watch industry. This know how is used in developing and producing the Archimede time pieces in Pforzheim, the center of the German watch industry.
Anyway, there’s plenty of history about these marvelous time pieces online.
