Red squirrels in Poland

Hi all,

Here are a few red squirrel portraits from my recent trip to Europe. These little guys are quite common in the local parks (even in the centre of Warsaw), a bit like our possums. Unlike many other places in Europe, these native reds are are much more common than the introduced grey squirrels from the US. I think feeding the squirrels was one of the highlights of the trip for my kids. (That's my son's hand in the last image.)

These were all taken with my 70-200 f/4L.

Cheers,
Stephen

Great shot Stephen.

Thanks for the comments guys. I didn't use my telephoto lens much in Poland, but it was worth having for these guys!

Cheers,
Stephen

Ah yes these are very common in Denmark too. Very cute!
As far as I know the grey ones are larger and more aggressive so they tend to dominate the native European red squirrels. The greys are seen as invaders in much of Northern Europe.

Those squirrels are self trained in getting food out of tourists

That's right Rolf. We didn't see any of the grey invaders in Poland, which is a good thing!

They certainly are! And my kids discovered fairly quickly (from the locals) that calling "Basia Basia Basia" brings the squirrels running!

Can I ask where in Poland you are?

Cheers,
Stephen
