Helix v2

Hi everyone. I've been playing around with the helix data I collected at A.F this year. I stretched the bjezus out of it, trying to expose the faint northern loop (somewhat succesfully) but had to tone it down because of horrible noise You can still sort of see it if you use averted vision maybe... Lots of little background galaxies though Details: LRGB-360,150,120,150. All subs 10 mins binned 1x1. TSA 120. SXVR-H16. Astronomik filters. Maxim5 PS 5 I just had a look at Mike's 2 hour AG 12 effort Impressive, but the colour in my shot looks a bit better Thanks for looking!

Yep, nice colour for sure Darrell ...strange that there isn't a little more outer stuff showing up though, 6hrs at 10min subs is a lot of lum through a 5" scope ...what does the stretched version look like?

Very nice and tidy image.

To capture that faint extension you would had to have used 2x2 with Ha.

Greg.

I tend to agree, I would have expected more extension of the nebula given the quantity of data. Ha data really drives this however. I like the result Darrell. The inner details showing the globs look great. Keep working the data over. I'm sure you'll get more out of it.

This is true, the Lum is good for inner details and background galaxies but the faint outer ring details are stronger in Ha I think.

I would be interested in seeing some other images done with no Ha to compare with, as most I've seen have a Ha component in them. Maybe thats telling me something. Thanks lots guys for your input and advice. Here Mike, Uberstretched version....

Ok, the faint lobe on left is just visible now,

I haven't done the Helix without Ha (except in my film days)

Superb shot. Ha's the go to bring out the outer neb although you've done really good in RGB. Very smooth.
