20 August, Murchison Astrofest

We are having our very first own Astrofest in the Murchison area this August!

Should be a great event and good dark spot right next to the area of the ASKAP and SKA bid site.

Having formed the Geraldton Astronomy Group a few months ago we are one of the sponors of the astofest and will be providing the scopes, running the star gazing and introduction to astrophotography talk.

Should be a great event

I found out about this in the newspaper the other weekend I think it was. I was initially quite keen to come, started to plan. But having realised the moon phase, where it rises 11:50 ... I'll leave it until next time. Great idea, it would be great to have a destination/event like this to go to in such a location, but to be worth the drive I really want more hours moon-less than 7pm - 11:30ish pm. Next time hopefully

I have to agree that there being a Moon during the night is a pain and I doubt that the group planning the event even considered the Moon phase. The main reason for the event timing is because of Science week.

As I'm running the observing session for the public so I won't be getting any observing or imaging in anyway.

Moon rising 10min before midnight is good for people who haven't seen the Moon through a scope before and being a wanning 1/4 phase it will have a nice terminator.

Even with a Moon putting a spanner in works the whole event of the Day and Night is going to still be great one.

...posting via a Iphone certaintly not as smooth as a PC that's for sure
