Corona Australis

I've been working at this for a week now - overall I'm quite happy with it. Its the faintest object I've attempted from light polluted Sydney.

The L was relatively easy to capture - all 10 minute subs. The RGB was a pain - all very uneven leading to colour gradient. Stepped the subs down from 5 minutes to 2.5 minutes binned x2 which made it much easier to manage.

Happily Maxim guiding was playing nicely

Tak 106FSQ, QSI 583wsg - L 90 minutes and RGB 45 minutes each - or thereabouts.

I'll gladly take any processing suggestions - the dark neb looks overly brown to me (almost muddy) but if I stretched it less, it would all look a bit plain and dark.

Glad it worked out for you Pete. Some nice fine detail there and I too struggle with dust lanes.

Actually this looks pretty good for colour. Maybe just up the saturation a little, but it looks pretty good overall. Similar colouring to mine anyway, so I like it.

Any chance of a slightly bigger image?

Thanks Paul

as we use the same camera and, sometimes, the same OTA (RC8) I often use your photos as a guide to what can be done.

I'm not sure how to make the image bigger without dropping the compression to keep under the 200kB limit for JPEGs. I'll have a play this evening.

I'm reasonably happy with the colour apart from some blue tint at the edges - in my earlier attempts, I found the bottom right section too red - till I realised that the dust is much broader than I had anticipated and when processed and stretched a bit, came up a delightful brown. Still not enough data but it will do for now.

Cheers Darrin

its positive enough to entice me to try again - The Snake Nebula that Louie took recently looks like an interesting target

Here is a larger file - still not easy to see the detail. I must invest time in setting up a website

Ignore the blue border - when I learn how to crop in PS, I can surgically remove it

I had another look at your image - beautiful blue. I am envious (though not green with envy - I have enough green already in my shots!)

It's a challenging region to process for sure.
But you have good data there to practice with.
