I recently bought some distilled water from K-Mart (to assist with my mirror cleaning) -

On the label it said not for human consumption, and I always thought distilled H2O was mighty pure ???

There is an urban legend that drinking distilled water will "leach" minerals out of your body and cause death.

In fact it helps to remove minerals from the body that cells have eliminated or not used, it does not "leach" out minerals that have become part of your body's cell structure.

Another is that it can't be healthy for you because it has no mineral content, but there is no proof that we get any benefit from minerals in non-distilled water anyway. We get our mineral needs from food, not water.

Yet another false claim propagated by filter manufacturers is that it will cause your teeth to deteriorate, not true.

A quick search on google will give you all the proof you need.

note quite urban legend, but drinking of distilled water will cause a salt inbalance and can lead to very bad liver & kidney problems. My mate was a body builder, he did it all the time to improve skin tone before shows and he ended up with dehydration issues and damage. So yes you should not drink distilled water only!!! but I'm not a doctor, and one should answer this one.

It is more likely that anabolic steroids damaged his kidneys and liver. In usual (2 - 3 L/day) quantities there are no health risks from drinking sterile distilled water. It's the possibility of bugs in the KMart stuff that makes them label it as described above
