ALIGNING THE MOUNT TO THE POLE. Have a Titan 50 mount which has been reasonably aligned using recommended methods. Then I did fine alignment to Carina by using adjustments until it would track unguided for 5 minutes or even more, for perfectly round stars.

Then flipped the mount to M8, with the reverse command using the Gemini. The best tracking is only 30 secs before star elongation, and I can't get CCD Ops to guide at all with the SBIG 11000 camera. I have had to use track and accumulate. If I don't use the reverse command the mount runs away.

Both targets were high in the sky, so refraction shouldn't be a problem.

Have I made a mistake fine tuning the mount to track Carina when I should be using other methods?
