Corona Australis - test only

I wasn't going to post this becasue it was a complete after thought after finishing the Lagoon on Friday morning and it is far from a complete image but I thought it might be interesting to some .

Corona Australis was sinking low into the west, the seeing was very ordinary to poor and the light polution was bad..but you know how it is at the end of a night you think..?..ummm? what can I just wack off (oi! steady, NO not that!) so I don't waste the last of the night

With a new fast scope and bigger field everything is interesting to try at the moment ...so I thought bah! I'll shoot it anyway...

This is just 8X5min Lum yep, 40min from inner suburban Newcastle, low in the sky and crap seeing ...So, it's by no means a purler of an image.. but man!! It was just a field framing test and I had no idea that I could reveal this much in next to no exposure Needless to say I am hugely excited to try again under a dark and steady sky! This scope is a photon sucker and not as useless under light pollution as I thought it would be with LRGB

One thing to note, this was using the very latest Astronomik Lum filter so notice the complete lack of halos around the bright stars, so that's good

Full frame image

Crystal clear. It'll be quite a treat with the color.

As surprising as this result is, I don't think I'll bother doing this one iin full LRGB from inner Newcastle, it's ok with bright objects (like the Lagoon) and using narrowband filters while I am here but something like this deserves a dark sky to do it justice

Yeah that's sensational Mike. Really impressive.

You gonna have to do some travel and take it to the farm.

That looks surprisingly like another image I have seen lately. It nearly is the same scale and size as my image with the 102 and QSI. I bet you did way less data than I did though. Probably 3 subs?

Would like to see a colour image though.

Yeh this will be one to do from a dark sky.

Paul, as I said in the post it's 8 X 5min Lum...this was a simple point and shoot with no planning, which image were you referring to that it looking like..?

As I said, I think I'll have a deep crack at this under dark and hopefully slightly steadier skies...can't imagine how she will perform out there

Mike

I've been plugging away at this for an hour this evening - to add to 1.5 hours at the weekend. I think I'll just give up and move on after seeing your "test" shot. That's a beauty

For comparison

For comparison, here is mine so far - 7 x 10 minutes. I'm only 7km from the Sydney CBD so the light pollution is not helpful.

Only processing is a quick and dirty digital development in Maxim and a minor tweak with curves and levels in PS.

Sorry too busy not reading thoroughly.

I meant mine. Similar image scale that's all. My little scope and QSI combo presents a simlar image scale to your monster scope and 16803.
