Another scope poll

Time for another censis

Not what scope do you own, but which that you own gets the most use ?

If you own multiple scopes, perhaps give a reason why you use one over the other?

I voted dob but also own an ed80 refractor which gets little use for the reason that its small aperture doesnt do enough to satisfy me.

Cool

G'day Y'all
bushfires came to within 20mts. from my observatory and 50 mts from my home.
If not for the fearless fire fighters and a huge grader ploughing thrugh my property all would have been lost.

back to issue at hand :- I also own an ed80 refractor which is mounted
on top of the 8" the SCT with the DSI Pro hanging on for dear life.

4" Genesis on TV Systems mount with GM8 controller, so easy to use and set -up. The big dobbies on "special " occasions.

Robert, I hope you and your loved ones (be they Cassegrains, Newts or refractors) stay safe.

8" Dob does the trick for me. My ED80 got sold because, like Geoff says, not quite enough aperture.

I'm confused. Does a 12" dob fit in the small dob <12.5" category or in the large dob >12" category?

Or both?

12" is not bigger than 12" so it's not the 12">, should go in the <12.5"

Geoff your dob sizes make no sence....hahahaha

I can see why the 12" dobbers are confused.

Go the SCT.

Makes perfect sense if you understand the < & > mathematical operators for "less than" and "greater than" respectively. The only people in no-mans land are those with a mirror somewhere between 12 and 12.5 inches

My intention was seperate out smaller tube dobs up to 12" from the larger dob types, which generally start at 12.5" and up.

Got off on a technicality Geoff. Sneaky, but "not guilty".

Refractors for me until I decide to like faint fuzzy things.
Wish I had that 4" TV genesis, but I've been told personally that it's not for sale.
umm... I need a second job.

The way I read it says.

<12.5 meaning dobs less the 12.5"
>12 meaning dobs larger then 12"

This sounds a bit back the front to me.....

Maybe phrased Dobs 12.5" and larger and Dobs less then 12.5"

I dont mind...I'm just glad I dont own a Dob.....lol

Sorry for being picky....I just have a bit of a facination no call it a fetish for numbers...hehe

Cobbers,

I use my two Refractors the most. The 80mm is mounted on a sturdy photo tripod, can be taken out with one hand, has almost no cool down time and is great for wide fields. I use it instead of binoculars.

The 120mm refractor is my favorite scope, great on nebulae

The 250mm Dob,only use it when I'm going deep

I am rather dependent upon my SCT with its "buzzes and clicks" (Froggy terminology).

3 scopes, two are SCT. One for sale and in storage, the other two are SCT and refractor. The refractor gets used sometimes. Only one SCT gets used. Only when the weather permits.
